Deposits and Cancellations
A deposit* of 50% (or one night's stay, whichever is greater) is required upon reservation, refundable in the event of a cancellation up to 14 days prior to arrival (30 days in-season, for special event weekends, and for group bookings; Colby College graduation deposits are non-refundable when booked). All cancellations are subject to a $15 fee per room. *For reservations made within the cancellation period, payment in full is charged as deposit.
Unlike large chain hotels and resorts, we do not overbook in anticipation of cancellations. Your room is reserved for you alone, from the time you book your stay. As such, cancellations on short notice make it extremely difficult to rebook vacancies. For this reason, once within the cancellation period, we are unfortunately simply not able to accommodate cancellations, change of dates or shortening of your stay without a deposit forfeit.
If this is a concern for you, we highly recommend that you consider travel insurance, which is widely available and will compensate you in the event that unforseen circumstances disrupt your plans.
Arrival and Departure
Check-in is from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. We understand that delays occur, and that the joy of vacation is unscheduled time. Our check-in is from 3 to 9 pm, and we only ask that you plan accordingly because of the disruption a late arrival can present to other guests. (And because a groggy innkeeper is exponentially more likely to brew the morning coffee without the filter, or burn several batches of bacon.) As for arriving early, you are welcome to park your car here & explore the town a bit. To give our housekeeping staff ample time to prepare your room, however, we cannot guarantee that your room will be ready until 3:00 p.m. Policy update: Unfortunately, due to the disruption to other guests, we are no longer accepting arrivals after 11 pm. Check-ins between 9 pm and 11 pm must be pre-arranged, and may be subject to a surcharge. As a room cannot be re-rented at late notice, we regret that our cancellation policies must stand and we cannot adjust the charges. We understand that circumstances may arise unexpectedly, such as flight delays or car trouble. However, social engagements, work obligations or general travel plans requiring late arrival are better suited for a hotel or motel with overnight front desk capabilities, and we can recommend alternative lodging options.
Check-out is at 11:00 a.m. Your courtesy in this regard is much appreciated, so that our staff is able to prepare the room for incoming guests.
Family Travel
Due to the romantic, adult atmosphere (fine fabrics and furnishings, antique china and crystal, the absence of televisions in standard guestrooms) and the inherent nature of a 200 year old farmhouse (lack of modern soundproofing, absence of televisions, lots of "nooks and crannies", and steep, narrow staircases), we find that Wings Hill Inn does not usually meet the needs of those travelling with young children. For these reasons, we must insist that children under the age of 10 be supervised at all times, everywhere on the property (whether in a guestroom, common area or on the grounds).
While our Sage Suite does accommodate two adults and one child, if your group exceeds that number, the Suite is unavailable during that time period, or you feel that you'd prefer a lodging option better suited to a more "energetic and enthusiastic" traveler, we are happy to make other recommendations locally.
Pets
For all the same reasons, the inn is unfortunately not well suited for the enthusiasm and vigor of even the mildly furry. As such, we are unable to host pets of any type anywhere on the property, but are happy to recommend wonderful canine and feline accommodations close by.
Room Occupancy
Wings Hill Inn was designed to offer a quiet, relaxing getaway, and we find that the majority of our guests are couples visiting for an escape, or individual travellers on business.
As such, our standard guestrooms have only one bed (either queen or king), and accommodate two guests only, rather than multiple beds for groups travelling together. (We've used the extra space for some special touches to add to your relaxation!) Our Sage Suite features a king bed and twin daybed, and works well for either two guests requiring separate sleeping arrangements, or two adults and one child (at an additional charge.) The Suite is not suitable for three adults, or for more than two adults and one child.
In addition, we adhere strictly to our occupancy limits for your safety. Cots, sleeping bags and other "squeeze-in" accommodations would hinder quick egress should an emergency exit from the guestroom be necessary.
We thank you for understanding that we are not able under any circumstances to accommodate additional lodging guests.
Smoking Policy
For the comfort of all our guests, the inn and all common areas are entirely nonsmoking (including our wrap-around porch, which is a common area available to all guests). Second floor guestrooms have balconies, and smoking is permitted there, as well as on our two acres of grounds.
Because of the potential damage to fabrics and furnishings here in the inn, and the loss of income when we are unable to use a guestroom smelling of smoke, a minimum $150.00 cleaning fee is charged on departure for those guests who choose to disregard our non-smoking policy in the guestrooms.
Alcoholic Beverages
Please feel free to bring champagne, wine, beer or spirits for your enjoyment. The Inn does not have a liquor license, but we are happy to provide you with ice, wine glasses, champagne bucket, or other amenities to enjoy your libations. You can bring a favorite along from home, or choose from a limited selection of beer, wine, champagne and liquor for purchase just across the street at Day's Country Store.
"Guests of Guests"
With sufficient advance notice, we're usually able to accommodate a local friend or family member for tea or breakfast. Additionally, we are happy to meet your loved ones if you'd like to have them visit the inn to see your accommodations. To preserve the quiet, relaxing atmosphere, however, and because there are guestrooms adjacent to the common areas, we regret that we're unable to provide space for an extended gathering of "guests of guests", especially during the evening.
